Dearest Earth, love of my life,

We know we've been blessed with a beautiful atmosphere that allows us to breathe and we have these great natural resources that allow us to live a comfortable life. But we are sad and ashamed to admit that we've been abusing your love. We've been taking advantage of you unashamedly and we should be disgusted and appalled by our behavior. You've loved us wholeheartedly and faithfully, but we have slapped you in the face and ripped your heart and broken your soul. How did we allow our wonderful relationship to deteriorate so rapidly, when our relationship had so much potential to last.

I am so heartbroken by what has happened in Sendai, Japan. The devastation is heart-rendering and I can't help but think of the victims that have been affected by the tragedies of the 8.9 earthquake. Not only has the earthquake devastated the people of Sendai, Japan, but it may continue to affect the rest of the world. The tremors of the earthquake are causing tsunamis. Thankfully, they have cited little damage to Hawaii. But they are putting areas on alert as far away as South America, Canada, Alaska and the entire U.S. West Coast. I cannot fathom the destruction of this earthquake, but I send my sincerest condolences to the families of victims.

I understand the concept behind natural disasters, I understand how earthquakes and tornadoes and hurricanes work, but I feel like we as humans are the cause of such destructive disasters. I think we may be being punished by some higher power. We have advanced so much in terms of technology, which has made us grow as intellectual human beings. But the more advanced our technology, the more we are destroying our beautiful Earth. The amount of natural resources we are burning away. Only recently, we've realized the severity of our situation with resources and energy. If we take action now, we can still foresee a future for generations ahead. But if we continue to abuse our resources, who knows what will be left for our children and their children and their children?

I can feel the pain that we've afflicted upon you, but I don't know how to relieve you of your pain? I can hear you cry at night and your painful sobs break my heart into a million pieces. I feel so helpless. What can I do to help you? How can I carry your burden? Just let me help you. I know I can't do much to help the victims in Japan, which makes me feel so helpless and sad, but I hope my words can provide some form of comfort. I don't have the money to donate, but if I can help just a little, I will donate something. I will be praying for the families of the victims and people who have been afflicted by this catastrophe. I hope people of Sendai will recover from this disaster soon. No one deserves to be in this much pain and suffering.

Dearest Earth, I hope you can forgive us of our wrongdoings and help the people in any way you can. I don't know what they're going through and seeing all the devastating photos, I feel like crying with you. I cannot stand to see such destruction and broken hearts. The photos will haunt me, the faces of broken and lost souls. I hope you can guide them to a safe place. Although recently, there have been natural disasters and political conflicts going on around the world, I want to take a moment and admire the beauty of our planet, you my dear friend, and the most breathtaking and stunning nebula AE Aurigae and the Flaming Star Nebula (Image Credit & Copyright: Rolf Geissinger). I found this photo on Astronomy Picture of the Day. Seeing such a gorgeous photo of a nebula makes me feel so small and slightly insignificant and also very grateful to be alive. Thank you for your amazing wonders, universe. I am in awe of you. I love you. Please forgive us, please forgive me. We will treat you better. I will treat you better. You deserve better. You truly deserve the best.

With all my love and deepest respect,
Avalonne

  4. Many people want to help out, but other than money or being an aid worker, there is another way to help by sending words of support and hope. You can send your message online to school children and emergency workers in Japan via Hope Letters http://hopeletters.wordpress.com/. Hope Letters will translate them into Japanese and deliver them to local organizations for posting/broadcasting (when it is practical and effective to do so). Help give hope!
