underneath the night sky
photographed by: caro ramirez (website | blog | flickr) and cole rise, absolutely no photoshop and editing

Last night, I had the amazing opportunity to learn about flashlight photography with Caro and her friend Cole at Mount Hamilton past San Jose. It was absolutely breathtaking out there. We got there around 5 when the sun was setting and the sky was lit by a very stunning orange pink sun. We were gradually losing light, so they began photographing me with the Hasselblad with a Polaroid back. After the sun had completely set, they starting photographing me with the 5D Mark II and a very powerful LED flashlight. I've been photographed with this technique before in the studio, but with a film camera, so I never saw the results, but I imagined it would have been quite beautiful and experimental. Thank you to Caro and Cole for these amazing photos, it was so much fun!

There was minimal light pollution out there, so we could see the glorious moon in the dark sky, littered with thousands of stars. You could even see moon shadow! I've never seen moon shadow before! It was so romantic and heartbreaking at the same time. The last time I had a chance to star gaze was in Queenstown, New Zealand (where Lord of the Rings was filmed). It was so beautiful and I cried. The stars are probably more visible in Queenstown, since there is nearly no light pollution there. I used the Star Walk app to identify some of the stars and planets in the sky. I was so surprised to be able to see Sirius in the sky. Thank you iPhone apps!

I'm absolutely in love with the Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 with Softfocus Telephoto Lens, thanks to Caro for introducing this amazing lens to my life. I'm so in awe of the photos taken with this lens. It just takes these eerie and antique looking photos. When I start earning money, I must buy this lens! Last week, when Caro and I went to Legion of Honor to shoot my last shoot for the girl from hk, ldn & sf, she filmed me with this lens and I also did some experimental filming. We had a blast. I must edit this video soon!

I've had a really productive week and I'm so proud of this outlet of creativity. I'm so thankful to have such inspiring and artistic people in my life. I also want to thank the lovely friends that attended my launch party/pleated pants party on Friday and we took some hilarious photobooth photos and videos. And thank you to the lovely people who are following this blog. I really appreciate your support and I'm going to do a giveaway sometime this or next week! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and wishing I was also at New York Fashion Week!
